* major culprits[3]
Pathology
- phototoxic eruption
- acute inflammation of the skin resembling sunburn
- drug distributes into skin & absorbs UV radiation
- direct photochemical reaction then results in tissue injury
- photoallergic reaction
- drug distributes into skin
- produces delayed hypersensitivity reaction after exposure to sunlight
Management
- treatment similar to acute sunburn & allergic-contact dermatitis
- supportive care
- topical glucocorticoids
- sunscreen (UV-A & UV-B)
- protective clothing
- discontinue photosensitizing agents
