Introduction
Component of Cetacaine.
Indications
- local anesthesia (pain)
- locally numbing mucous membranes of the mouth & throat
- minor surgical procedures*
- intubation of the stomach or airway*
- skin irritation due to superficial injury
- oropharyngeal pain
- gag reflex[5]
Adverse effects
* On February 8, 2006, the Veterans Health Administration (VA) announced the decision to stop using benzocaine sprays for these purposes[4]
