Introduction
Benzocaine 1.4%, antipyrine 5.4% in glycerin*
Indications
- temporary relief of ear pain
- facilitation of ear wax removal
Contraindications
sensitivity to ester-type local anesthetics
Dosage
- 2-4 drops TID/QID PRN
- insert saturated cotto pledget
- for ear wax removal, instill drops TID-QID for 2-3 days 10 & 15 mL bottles.

Mechanism of action
- anesthetic
- decreased permeability of neuronal membrane to Na+ resulting in blocking of nerve impulses
* New formulation substitutes acetic acid & U-polycosanol 410 for glycerin; price increases from $2 to $150[4]
