Introduction
A disease of autoimmunity.
Pathology
- secretion of IL-17 by T-helper cells (Th17 cells)
- increased serum levels of FCGBP
Laboratory
Complications
Management
- immunosuppression of various forms
- investigational
- in mice, digoxin suppresses production of IL-17 & onset of experimental autoimmune encephalitis[1]
Comparative biology
- antigen-specific immunotherapy appears possible in mice[4]
- type 1 diabetes, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis, &/or rheumatoid arthritis treated by creating tiny particles (nanomedicinea) coated by a disease-relevant peptide bound to MHC class II proteins
- this caused generation of regulatory T cells that suppressed both autoantibody & cytotoxic T-cell attack on a specific target
- no evidence of toxicity, including no opportunistic disease or malignancies
- type 1 diabetes, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis, &/or rheumatoid arthritis treated by creating tiny particles (nanomedicinea) coated by a disease-relevant peptide bound to MHC class II proteins
