Function
- catalytic subunit of the NuA4 histone acetyltransferase complex
- directly acetylates & activates ATM
- in case of HIV1 infection, interaction with HIV1 Tat protein leads to KAT5 polyubiquitination & targets it to degradation
- sumoylated by UBE2I at Lys-430 & Lys-451, leading to increase of its histone acetyltransferase activity in UV-induced DNA damage response, as well as its translocation to nuclear bodies
- phosphorylated on Ser-86 & Ser-90; enhanced during G2/Mphase
- phosphorylated form has a higher activity
- ubiquitinated by MDM2, leading to its proteasome-dependent degradation
- autoacetylation at Lys-327 is required for proper function
- interacts with the cytoplasmic tail of APP & APBB1/FE65 (putative)
- interacts with PLA2G4A/CPLA2, EDNRA & HDAC7
- interacts with TRIM24 & TRIM68
- forms a complex with SENP6 & UBE2I in response to UV irradiation
Structure
- belongs to the MYST (SAS/MOZ) family
- contains 1 C2HC-type Zn+2 finger
Compartment
- nucleus, nucleolus, cytoplasm, perinuclear region
- upon stimulation with EDN1, exported from the nucleus to the perinuclear region
- UV irradiation induces translocation into nuclear bodies
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=4
