Introduction

Conjugation of a target protein with a SUMO protein (small ubiquitin-related modifier). The SUMO protein modifies an epsilon amino group of lysine in the target protein thus changing conformation of the conjugated protein. Sumoylation is reversible via SUMO-specific ligases & SUMO-specific proteases.

Protein sumoylation has been implicated in:[3]
