Function
- major transitions in the eukaryotic cell cycle are triggered by CDK's
- CDK activation requires cyclin binding & phosphorylation of a conserved Thr by the CDK-activating kinase (CAK) & dephosphorylation of a conserved Thr-Tyr pair
- human p34cdc2 has been implicated mainly in the control of mitosis, whereas CDK2 may be involved in the control of G1 phase & S phase events
Expression
- cellular CDK levels tend to remain in constant excess of cyclins throughout the normal cell cycle, with regulation of activity primarily post-translational[3]
