Introduction

Intracellular paracrystalline rod like structures seen in aging, neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Pick's disease, kuru & alcoholism; composed of actin & actin binding proteins. Oxidation of cofilin-1 may result in abnormal actin-bundling activity & play a role in formation of Hirano bodies.
