Function
- nuclear receptor response element for binding of heterodimer LXR:RXR (LXR-alph:RXR & LXR-beta:RXR)
- since oxysterols are ligands for the LX-receptor (LXR), the LXRE mediates oxysterol-regulated gene transcription
Structure
- LXREs are DR4-type response elements characterized by direct repeats of two similar hexanuclotide half-sites spaced by four nucleotides Genes containing an LX response element include:
- apolipoprotein-E gene
- ATP-binding cassette 1 (ABC1) gene
- ATP-binding cassette 8 (ABC8) gene

- LX nuclear receptor (LXR, oxysterol receptor)
- retinoid X receptor (RXR)
