Introduction

Basal expression of apo E is independent of LXR. LXRE enhancer element mediates lipid-inducibility of apo E gene in macrophages & adipocytes, but not hepatocytes. The apoE4 allele is associated with an increased risk of late onset Alzheimer's disease, the apoE2 allele may be protective. Cortical thickness is regions related to entorhinal cortex is lower in children & young adults with apoE4 allele.[3]
