Function
- transcriptional corepressor
- may specifically inhibit gene expression when recruited to promoter regions by sequence specific DNA-binding proteins such as BCL6
- repression may be mediated at least in part by histone deacetylase activities which can associate with this corepressor
- interacts with CTBP1
- interacts with HDAC4, HDAC5 & HDAC7
- phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR
Structure
- belongs to the BCOR family
- contains 3 ANK repeats
Compartment
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=3
Expression
- detected in testis & prostate
- detected at lower levels in peripheral blood leukocytes & spleen
More general terms
- transcriptional silencer (transcriptional repressor)
- ankyrin repeat domain protein (ANKRD)
- phosphoprotein
