Function
- receptor for TNFSF11/RANKL/TRANCE/OPGL
- essential for RANKL-mediated osteoclastogenesis
- stimulates osteoclast activity
- regulates interactions between T-cells & dendritic cells
- receptor activation of NF-kappa B (RANK)
- interacts with TRAF1, TRAF2, TRAF3, TRAF5 & TRAF6
- interacts (via cytoplasmic domain) with GAB2
Structure
Compartment
- membrane, single-pass type 1 membrane protein (putative)
Expression
- ubiquitous expression with high levels in skeletal muscle, thymus, liver, colon, small intestine & adrenalgland
- also expressed on:
- chondrocytes
- osteoclast precursors & mature osteoclasts
Pathology
- defects in TNFRSF11A are the cause of
