Function
- antigen-presenting cells
- dendritic cells capture & process antigens from microorganisms in peripheral tissues, migrate to lymphoid organs, secrete cytokines to initiate immune responses & present the antigens to resting T cells
- dendritic cells are present in tissues in contact with the external environment
- all dendritic cells are ultimately of bone marrow origin.
- thymic dendritic cells & T cells develop simultaneously in the thymus from a common precursor population
More general terms
More specific terms
- dendritic cell precursor type 2 (plasmacytoid dendritic cell, natural interferon (IFN)-producing cells, pre-DC2, pDC)
- Langerhan's cell
