• role in regulation of protein translation by phosphorylating & inactivating EEF2K
• activated by phosphorylation on Thr & Tyr by either of two dual specificity kinases, MAP2K3 & MAP2K6
• dually phosphorylated on Thr-180 & Tyr-182, which activates the enzyme
