Function
- general chromatin factor that acts to reorganize nucleosomes
- involved in multiple processes that require DNA as a template including mRNA elongation, DNA replication & DNA repair
- during transcription elongation, FACT complex acts as histone chaper structure
- facilitates passage of RNA polymerase 2 & transcription by promoting the dissociation of one histone H2A-H2B dimer from the nucleosome, then subsequently promotes reestablishment of the nucleosome following passage of RNA polymerase 2
- role in phosphorylation of Ser-392 of p53/TP53 via association with casein kinase 2
- ADP-ribosylation of SUPT16H by PARP1 is induced by genotoxic stress & correlates with dissociation of FACT from chromatin
