ubiquitin-like 1 [UBL1] activating enzyme E1 (SUMO-1 activating enzyme, UBLE1 ligase)
Jump to navigation
Jump to search
Function
- acts as a E1 ligase for SUMO1, SUMO2, SUMO3, & probably SUMO4
- mediates ATP-dependent activation of SUMO proteins followed by formation of a thioester bond between a SUMO protein & a conserved active site Cys on UBA2/SAE2
- protein modification; protein sumoylation
Structure
- heterodimer of SAE1 & UBA2/SAE2 corresponds to the two domains that are encoded on a single polypeptide chain in ubiquitin-activating enzyme E1
Pathology
- low levels of UBLE1 ligase in human breast cancer with activated c-Myc correlate with better survival[2]
