Function
- receptor for interleukin-33 (IL-33), its stimulation recruits MYD88, IRAK1, IRAK4, & TRAF6, followed by phosphorylation of MAPK3/ERK1 &/or MAPK1/ERK2, MAPK14, & MAPK8
- possibly involved in helper T-cell function
- interacts with MYD88, IRAK1, IRAK4, & TRAF6
Structure
- belongs to the interleukin-1 receptor family
- contains 3 Ig-like C2-type domains
- contains 1 TIR domain
Compartment
- isoform C: cell membrane
- single-pass type 1 membrane protein
- isoform B: secreted
Alternative splicing
- named isoforms=3; ST2L, ST2S, ST2V
- at least one isoform may be produced at very low levels due to a premature stop codon in the mRNA, leading to nonsense-mediated mRNA decay
Expression
- highly expressed in kidney, lung, placenta, stomach, skeletal muscle, colon & small intestine
- isoform A is prevalently expressed in the lung, testis, placenta, stomach & colon
- isoform B is more abundant in the brain, kidney & the liver
- isoform C is not detected in brain, heart, liver, kidney & skeletal muscle
