Introduction
process for ridding eukaryotic cells of aberrant mRNAs with premature termination codons. Upf1, Upf2, Upf3a, & Upf3b may be involved in NMD. Upf3a & Upf3b are nucleocytoplasmic shuttling proteins, Upf2 is perinuclear, & Upf1 cytoplasmic. Upf3a & Upf3b may associate with spliced mRNA & assembly of a dynamic hUpf complex in the nucleus at mRNA exon-exon junctions may trigger NMD in the cytoplasm when recognized downstream of a termination codon.[1]
