Introduction
Cytoplasmic domain of approximately 200 amino acids found in Toll receptors & ILR1, involved in innate antibacterial & antifungal immunity. It mediates homotypic protein-protein interactions in signal transduction & directs localization of receptor(s) through interaction(s) with the cytoskeleton (putative).
Proteins containing a TIR domain include:
- interleukin-1 receptor family
- myeloid differentiation factor (MyD88) {also contains a DEATH domain)
- Toll-like receptors
- plant proteins involved in the host response to infection
