Introduction
The 45 presumably reflects apparent molecular weight.
Function
- binds to proliferating cell nuclear antigen
- might affect PCNA interaction with some CDK (cell division protein kinase) complexes
- binding of GADD45A to PCNA may displace PCNA from CDK complexes
- stimulates DNA excision repair in vitro & inhibits entry of cells into S phase
- GADD45A, GADD45B & GADD45G bind to N-terminal domain of Mtk1 & activate Mtk1 kinase activity.
- interacts with GADD45GIP1
Structure
belongs to the GADD45 family
Expression
- induced by UV radiation, X-rays, growth arrest & alkylating agents
- induction is mediated by some kinase(s) other than PKC
Pathology
- induction of GADD45 in ataxia telangiectasia cells is abnormal
