Function
- receptor for glutamate
- activity is mediated by a G-protein that activates a phosphatidylinositol- Ca+2 second messenger system
- may play role in CNS action of glutamate
- long-term potentiation in the hippocampus
- long-term depression in the cerebellum
- interacts with SIAH1, RYR1, RYR2, ITPR1, SHANK1, SHANK3 & GRASP (putative)
Structure
- homodimer; disulfide-linked
- PPXXF motif in proline rich region binds to EVH1 domain in HOMER1, HOMER2 & HOMER3[2]
- belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 3 family
Compartment
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2; alpha, beta
