Introduction
Cross links formed from oxidized cysteine residues. Intracellular proteins usually lack disulfides; extracellular proteins often contain several.
Oxidizing equivalents for disulfide bond formation are provided by a flavoprotein monooxygenase within the endoplasmic reticulum.
