criteria for probable Alzheimer's disease

Introduction
- dementia established by clinical examination (mental status testing) & documented by mental status scales (confirmed by neuropsychological testing)
- deficits in 2 or more cognitive domains
- gradual progressive subjective episodic memory impairment may be accompanied by impairment in other cognitive domains[2]*
- no disturbance of consciousness or delirium
- onset between ages 40 & 90
- absence of systemic or other brain diseases capable of producing dementia
- must have 1 of the following[2]*
- medial temporal lobe atrophy on MRI
- CSF with low a-beta, high total tau, or phospho-tau
- PET scan showing reduced metabolism in bilateral temporal parietal regions
- an immediate family member with proven autosomal dominant mutation for AD
