Pathology

Lesions, clinical manifestations:

unilateral disease of dominant temporal lobe
- upper homonymous quadrantanopia
- Wernicke's aphasia
- impairment in tests of verbal material presented through auditory cues
- dysnomia or amnestic aphasia
- amusia (inability to name musical scores & to read & write music)
unilateral disease of non-dominant temporal lobe
- upper homonymous quadrantanopia
- inability to judge spatial relationships in rare cases
- impairment in tests of nonverbal visually presented material
- inability to recognize melodies & other nonlexical qualities of music
disease in either temporal lobe
- auditory illusions & hallucinations
- psychotic behavior (aggression)
- upper homonymous quadrantanopia
bilateral temporal lobe disease
- Korsakoff amnesic defect
- Kluver Bucy syndrome
  - apathy & placidity
  - increased sexual activity
  - sham rage
- cortical deafness
- loss of other unilateral functions
