Clobetasol Topical (Temovate, Clobex, Galderma, Cormax, Olux foam)

Introduction

Tradenames: Temovate, Clobex, Galderma, Cormax.

Indications

• short term treatment of inflammatory dermatoses
  • seborrheic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, nummular eczema
• psoriasis

Dosage

(topical)

• 0.05% cream/ointment/spray/scalp application QD/BID
• up to 2 weeks of therapy
• maximum: 50 g/week
• avoid application of occlusive dressing to the site(s) of clobetasol administration

Solution: (0.05%) for scalp 25 & 50 mL. Cream (0.05%) 15 & 30 g.

Gel: (0.05%) (propionate): 15, 30 & 45 g.

Spray: (0.05%) (Clobex, Galderma) 2 oz

Adverse effects

• not common (1-10%)
  • skin irritation, dryness, erythema, pruritus, papular rashes
• uncommon (< 1%)
  • acneiform eruptions, hypertrichosis, hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis, skin maceration, skin atrophy, striae, miliaria
• other
  • suppression of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis
