Differential diagnosis
Conditions that can be mistaken for vasculitis include:
- cholesterol emboli
- cardiac myxoma, atrial myxoma
- malignancy
- paraneoplastic vasculitis
- skin & nervouse system involvement most common
- Trousseau's syndrome
- lymphoma
- paraneoplastic vasculitis
- coagulopathy
- infections:
- Goodpasture's syndrome
- drugs/toxicity:
- cocaine, amphetamines, ephedra alkaloids, phenylpropanolamine can cause vasospasm
- erythema multiforme
- mucous membrane involvement common
- does not cause hypertension or widespread purpura[1]
- scurvy[2]
