Introduction
Uses
- weight control
- CNS stimulant
- bronchospasm, asthma & bronchitis
* used in: Dextatrim, bitter orange, country mallow (heartleaf)
Contraindications
- hypertension
- cardiac tachyarrhythmia
- pheochromocytoma
- thyrotoxicosis
- glaucoma
- nervousness
- anxiety
- insomnia
Dosage
- 15-30 mg of alkaloid/dose
- NOT to exceed 100 mg/24 hours
Adverse effects
- cardiac
- may exacerbate cardiac arrhythmias
- may exacerbate hypertension
- cardiac arrest (rare)
- neurologic
