Contraindications
- hypersensitivity to diatrizoate or any of its components
- allergy to shellfish requires premedication (see contrast agent)
Adverse effects
- not common (1-10%)
- cardiac:
- vascular:
- venospasm, venous pain, thrombophlebitis, tissue necrosis at injection site,
- respiratory:
- skin:
- nervous system
- nausea/vomiting,
- acute renal failure
- oliguria, transient proteinuria
- sensation of warmth
Mechanism of action
- Oral contrast agent
- IV contrast agent: ionic, high osmolality
- contains organically bound iodine (290-370 mg/mL)
