Tradenames: Robitussin, Fenesin, Humibid LA.

NOT for persistent cough, smoking, asthma, emphysema or cough accompanied by excessive secretions

adults & children > 12 years of age
- 5-20 mL PO every 4 hours
- 600-1200 mg PO every 12 hours
- maximum 2400 mg QD
children 6-12 years of age
- 5-10 mL/dose
- 600 mg PO every 12 hours
- maximum 1200 mg QD
children 2-6 years of age
- 2.5 to 5 mL PO
increase fluid intake to help loosen mucus Tabs (sustained-release): 600 mg Mucinex (OTC)

Syrup: 100 mg/5 mL.

expectorant action through increased output of respiratory fluid, enhancing flow of less viscid secretion
