Function
- galactose-specific lectin which binds IgE
- in conjunction with alpha-3, beta-1 integrin & CSPG4, may facilitate endothelial cell migration
- together with DMBT1, required for terminal differentiation of columnar epithelial cells during early embryogenesis (putative)
- forms a complex with ITGA3, ITGB1 & CSPG4
- interacts with LGALS3BP, LYPD3, UACA & CYHR1
- probably forms homodimers or heterodimers
Structure
contains 1 galectin domain
Compartment
- nucleus
- cytoplasmic in adenomas & carcinomas
- may be secreted by a non-classical secretory pathway & associate with cell surface
Expression
- expressed in colonic epithelium & activated macrophages
