Expression
- expressed in placenta, skin & urothelium
- found in suprabasal keratinocytes of chronic wounds
- weak expression in esophagus & peripheral blood mononuclear cells
- up-regulated in migrating keratinocytes during epithelization of incisional skin wounds.
Pathology
- role in tumor progression (putative)
- found in the majority of primary & metastatic transitional cell carcinomas & breast cancers, but not in adjacent normal tissues
- high expression in the tumor component of some noninvasive superficial lesions & in invasive & metastatic urothelial cancers
