Function
- ligand for CD2
- mediates adhesion between:
- mediates T-lymphocyte rosetting with erythrocytes
- the LFA-3/CD2 interaction may prime response by both the CD2+ & LFA-3+ cells
Structure
- contains 1 Ig-like C2-type domain (immunoglobulin-like)
Compartment
- isoform 1: cell membrane
- isoform 2: cell membrane; lipid-anchor, GPI-anchor
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Expression
- GPI-anchored form. may be produced at very low levels due to a premature stop codon in the mRNA, leading to nonsense-mediated mRNA decay
- leukocytes
- erythrocytes
- endothelial cells
- epithelial cells
- fibroblasts
