• optimizies host cell environment for viral replication
• nhances virus infectivity & pathogenicity
• down-regulates surface MHC-I molecule
  • internalized molecules are sequestred to the trans-Golgi
  • decreases cell surface CD4 antigen via LCK
  • induces LCK-CD4 dissociation
• bypasses host T-cell signaling
• interacts with the TCR-zeta chain to up-regulate Fas ligand
• protects infected cell from apoptosis
  • inhibits the Fas & TNFR-mediated death signals by blocking MAP3K5
  • interacts with p53, decreases its 1/2life
  • inhibits the apoptotic signals regulated by the Bcl-2 family proteins via Nef/PI3-kinase/PAK2 complex that induces phosphorylation of Bad Cell membrane, myristoylated, cytoplasm, perinuclear region, virion
