Introduction
Phenotype includes:
- histologic features typical of asthma
- marked bronchoconstriction in response to inhaled methacholine
- increased numbers of eosinophils
- increased Th2/Th1 helper cell ratio
- unusually thick layers of collagen & more myofibroblasts in bronchial airways
- increased levels of cytokines characteristic of asthmatic airways
