Polymorphism

• genetic variation in TLR5 is associated with resistance to systemic lupus erythematosus type 1
• individuals with a stop codon polymorphism in position 392 are unable to mediate flagellin signaling
  • expressed in dominant fashion
  • associated with susceptibility to pneumonia caused by Legionella pneumophila

Pharmacology

• TLR5 agonist CBLB502 may be useful as radioprotective agent during radiation therapy for cancer treatment
