dopamine D4 receptor; dopamine D2C receptor (DRD4)

Function
- one of the five types of dopamine receptor
- activity of this receptor is mediated by G proteins which inhibit adenylyl cyclase
- interacts with CLIC6 (putative) & GPRASP1
- consensus sites for PKA & PKC phosphorylation
Structure
belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family
Compartment
Polymorphism
- the number of repeats of 16 amino acids in the 3rd cytoplasmic loop is highly polymorphic & varies among different alleles
- the polymorphic repeat sequence has little influence on DRD4-binding profiles & might not be essential for G protein interaction
- 7R allele associated with longevity in mice & humans[3]
