Introduction
Interactions:
- hearing loss can masquerade as cognitive impairment[1]
- hearing loss is independently associated with incident all-cause dementia[4]
- hearing loss is associated with lower scores on tests of memory & executive function[3]
- hearing loss is associated with accelerated brain atrophy in whole brain & in regional volumes concentrated in the right temporal lobe[2]
- risk of dementia increases with severity of hearing loss[1]
- hearing loss accelerates cognitive decline in patients with dementia[1]
- hearing aid use does not reduce the risk of dementia[1][9]
- no reported interaction of acohcol consumption with hearing loss on risk of dementia[1]
- hearing loss is associated with an increased risk of falls in elderly with dementia[7]
- dual sensory impairment (hearing loss & visual impairment) is prevalent in older adults & associated with increased risk of dementia[6]
- visual acuity (distance acuity & near acuity) & contrast sensitivity impairment may be associated with a higher risk of dementia among older US adults[8]
