Function
- agonist of NF-kappa B activation through the orphan IL1RL2
- could constitute part of an independent signaling system analogous to IL-1 alpha, IL-1 beta & IL1R1, present in epithelial barriers & takes part in local inflammatory response
Structure
belongs to the IL-1 family
Compartment
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Expression
- highly expressed in tissues containing epithelial cells: skin, lung, stomach & esophagus
- in skin, expressed only in keratinocytes
- not expressed in fibroblasts, endothelial cells or melanocytes
