Function
- specific antagonist of the IL-1 receptor-related protein 2- mediated response to interleukin 1 family member 9 (IL1F9)
- could constitute part of an independent signaling system analogous to IL-1 alpha (IL-1A), IL-1 beta (IL-1B) receptor agonist & interleukin-1 receptor type 1 (IL1R1), that is present in epithelial barriers & takes part in local inflammatory responses
Structure
belongs to the IL-1 family
Compartment
Expression
- predominantly expressed in keratinocytes
- not expessed in fibroblasts, endothelial cells or melanocytes
- detected in spleen, brain leukocyte & macrophage cell types
- increased expression in lesional psoriasis skin
- induced by phorbol ester (PMA) & bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS) treatment in macrophage cell line
Pathology
- defects in IL36RN are the cause of generalized pustular psoriasis
