Introduction
inflammation of the lacrimal gland
Etiology
- acute dacryoadenitis
- chronic dacryoadenitis
Pathology
- inflammatory enlargement of the lacrimal gland
Clinical manifestations
- outer eyelid edema, erythema, tenderness
- ocular pain
- excess lacrimation
- preauricular lymphadenopathy
Diagnostic procedures
- biopsy if rule out tumor is indicated
Radiology
- computed tomography may be indicated for diagnosis in difficult cases[1]
Complications
- visual impairment from edema
Differential diagnosis
Management
- rest & warm compressed for viral dacryoadenitis
- other treatments specific to etiology
