  • corneal abrasions, corneal ulcerations
  • chemical burns, flash burns from intense light sources
  • conjunctivitis
  • blepharitis
  • dry eye
  • chalazion causes eye pain from local irritation
  • foreign body
• orbital pain
  • angle-closure glaucoma
  • iritis
  • optic neuritis
  • sinusitis
  • migraine
  • trauma
    • penetrating injury to the eye
    • blunt injury, i.e. motor vehicle collisions

Physical examination

• inspection of the eye
• visual fields
• pupillary reaction to light

Diagnostic procedures

• ophthalmoscopy
• tonometry
• slit lamp examination

Management

• flush eye with water
• see specific etiology
