Etiology
- primary disorders of the salivary glands:
- sialolithiasis (salivary stones) cause sialadenitis with pain & swelling, often on eating
- parotitis (recurrent) occurs in children
- diseases involving the salivary glands:
Clinical manifestations
- xerostomia is a symptom of salivary gland insufficiency
