Etiology

• generally caused by local trauma

Pathology

• mucocele found on the floor of the mouth
• edema of connective tissue consisting of collected mucin from a ruptured salivary gland duct

Management

• observation for small lesions
• minor oral surgery may be required (usually removal of the sublingual gland)
