Microscopic pathology
- variable amounts lipogenic & non lipogenic areas
- appearances of nonlipogenic areas variable, sometimes similar to
- storiform to pleomorphic MFH
- myxoid MFH/intermediate to high grade myxofibrosarcoma
- pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma
- epithelioid (resembling adrenocortical carcinoma or renal cell carcinoma)
- hemangiopericytoma-like vasculature
- epithelioid variant Immunocytochemistry[1]:
- lipogenic component: 48% S100 positive; CK, EMA, smooth muscle actin, desmin, CD34, CD68 essentially negative (one case CK positive, one case smooth muscle actin positive)
- nonlipogenic component: S100 10% positive CK negative EMA 26% positive smooth muscle actin 49% positive desmin 19% positive CD34 40% positive CD68 13% positive
