Introduction
Tradename: Zanosar.
Indications
- treatment of metastatic islet cell carcinoma of the pancreas
- carcinoid tumor & carcinoid syndrome
- Hodgkin's disease
- palliative treatment of colorectal carcinoma
Contraindications
Caution:
- avoid aspirin
- use electric razor
Dosage
- may be injected by rapid IV push
- dosage adjustment for renal failure
- refrigerate & protect from light
- discard refrigerated reconstituted solutions after 12 hours
Powder for injection: 1 g
Adverse effects
- common (> 10%)
- nephrotoxicity (25-75%), nausea/vomiting
- less common (1-10%)
- diarrhea, hypoglycemia, pain at site of injection
- uncommon (< 1%)
- liver dysfunction, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, hematologic toxicity
- other
- may cause permanent sterility
- may cause birth defects
Drug interactions
- phenytoin
- other potentially nephrotoxic drugs
Test interactions
increases serum K+
