Function
- transcriptional coactivator
- binds to SLC9A3R2 via PDZ motif at plasma membrane
- binds to YWHAZ in vivo & in vitro t via phosphoserine-binding motif RSHSSP
Structure
- PDZ-binding motif
- essential for stimulated gene transcription
- localizes the protein into both punctate nuclear foci & plasma membrane-associated complexes
- contains 1 WW domain
- binds to transcription factors via its WW domain
Compartment
- nucleus, cytoplasm
- concentrates along specific portions of the plasma membrane, & accumulates in punctate nuclear bodies
- phosphorylation inhibits transcriptional coactivation via YWHAZ-mediated nuclear export - when phosphorylated, WWTR1 is retained in cytoplasm by YWHAZ
Expression
- highly expressed in kidney, heart, placenta, lung
