Function
- may play a role in cell cycle regulation
- dual specificity phosphatase active toward substrates containing either phospho-Tyr or phospho-Ser
- dephosphorylates CDK2 at Thr-160 (cyclin-dependent)
- interacts with cyclin-dependent kinases CDC2, CDK2 & CDK3 but not CDK4
- interacts (via C-terminus) with phosphorylated CDK2 (via C-terminal helix)
- interacts with MS4A3 (via C-terminus); the interaction enhances CDKN3 enzymatic activity
Structure
- belongs to the protein-tyrosine phosphatase family
Compartment
cytoplasm, perinuclear region
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Expression
- expressed at G1->S transition in HeLa cells
Pathology
- defects in CDKN3 are found in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma
- up-regulated in breast cancer & prostate cancer cells
