Introduction

Tyrosine residue phosphorylated by tyrosine kinase.

Phosphotyrosine has an elongated structure & apparently plays a crucial role in molecular recognition & the formation of protein/ protein complexes mediated largely, if not entirely, through SH2 (src homology-2) domains. The specificity tyrosine phosphate for SH2-domains is regulated by residues C-terminal to the phosphorylated tyrosine residue.
