Function
- coat protein with role in localization of trans-Golgi network membrane proteins with acidic cluster sorting motifs
- controls the endosome-to-Golgi trafficking of furin & mannose-6-phosphate receptor by connecting the acidic-cluster- containing cytoplasmic domain with adapter-protein complex-1 (AP-1) of endosomal clathrin-coated membrane pits
- interacts with AP-1 & AP-3 but not with AP- 2
- forms a ternary complex with furin & AP-1
Compartment
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Pathology
- role in HIV-1 nef-mediated removal of MHC-I from the cell surface to the trans-GOLGI
- combines with Nef to usurp the ARF6 endocytic pathway by a PI3K-dependent process to remove cell surface MHC-I molecules
