Function
- transcription regulator
- heart morphogenesis & development of coronary vessels from epicardium
- forms heterodimers with transcription factors of the GATA family, GATA4, GATA5 & GATA6
- interacts with the N-terminal zinc-finger of GATA4, GATA5 GATA6
- these heterodimers can both activate or repress transcriptional activity, depending on cell & promoter context
- gonadal differentiation, via regulating expression of SRY
- interacts with retinoid nuclear receptor RXRA when ligand bound
- interaction with corepressor CTBP2
- CCHC-type zinc fingers 1, 5, 6 & 8 directly bind to GATA-type zinc fingers
Structure
- belongs to the FOG (Friend of GATA) family
- contains 3 C2H2-type zinc fingers
- contains 5 C2HC-type zinc fingers
Compartment
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Expression
widely expressed at low level
Pathology
- defects in ZFPM2 may be a cause of tetralogy of Fallot
- defects in ZFPM2 are the cause of congenital diaphragmatic hernia 3
